The .uk register reaches 10.7 million names
Nominet's latest monthly figures put the .uk register at just over 10.7 million domain names at the end of September 2026, a little up on August.
According to Nominet's reports and statistics page, there were 9,199,893 third-level names (such as .co.uk and .org.uk) and 1,524,049 second-level, or "direct", .uk names at the end of September. Added together, that is 10,723,942 registrations.
The same page gives August's totals as 9,144,916 and 1,512,808, or 10,657,724 together, so the register grew by 66,218 names over the month. Nominet also reports 215,852 new registrations in September (181,861 third-level and 33,991 direct .uk).
Where the growth is
.co.uk is still by far the largest part of the register, with 8,739,658 names at the end of September. Next come .org.uk (367,797) and .me.uk (53,490).
Direct .uk names are growing faster in percentage terms. Nominet's figures show 1,383,807 at the end of January 2026 and 1,524,049 at the end of September. That is an increase of 140,242, or about 10%, in eight months (our calculation from Nominet's numbers).
Renewals
Nominet publishes renewal rates about three months behind the register totals. Its most recent figure, for June 2026, is 81.29%.
A registration is not the same as a website. Many names are held for brand protection, redirects or future projects, so these figures count names, not active sites.
Why it matters if you are buying or selling
A larger register means fewer short, obvious .uk names are left unregistered. If the name you want is taken, our guide to buying a domain that is already registered explains the usual steps. .uk transfers between registrars are also changing in February 2027; see our report on the new transfer process.
