Domain sales: how to follow the market
We plan to publish a weekly round-up of notable reported domain sales. Until we can source every item properly, this page explains where sales data comes from and how to read it.
Where reported sales come from
- NameBio: a searchable database of reported sales from marketplaces and auctions.
- DN Journal: weekly charts of reported sales.
- Industry news sites, and occasionally buyers or sellers themselves (for example the TradingCards.com report).
How to read sales data
- It is a sample. Many sales are private and never reported.
- Compare like with like. Extension, length, meaning and buyer type all matter.
- Asking price is not sale price. Listings are often priced well above what eventually sells.
- Check the date. Markets change, and older sales may be less relevant.
Our approach to a weekly round-up
When we publish one, each sale will link to its original source. We will write our own short commentary and will not copy any database or chart. See our editorial policy.
